HR Shared Services – for Better Recruiting & Hiring Processes

HR Shared Services Solutions have been a boon to the onboarding process for human resources professionals and managers. But what about assisting in candidate searching and recruiting? A wide variety of organizations, both public and private firms, as well as those in the recruiting/talent management service sector, have turned to the support and services provided by HR service delivery to assist in their recruiting and hiring efforts…

In the private sector for example, firms such as USG Corporation, a construction and remodeling industry supplier, “moved to a true shared services model for delivery of HR services," says Gina Max, Talent Manager at USG in 'Shifting to A Shared Services Recruitment Model,' an interview by author Gayle Norton posted on the blog of recruiting firm TalentRISE.

“Following our shift to a shared services model, we centralized recruiting processes for positions within the United States and Canada.  Prior, we created the recruiting processes and recommended practices, but did not actually handle most recruiting.  This was a very significant change in our 110-year history.  We were now responsible for recruiting for most of USG’s 9,000 positions," says Ms. Max.

Firms like USG are using shared service to capitalize on their recruiting and retention efforts; leveraging the technology for better communication among recruiters about candidates, adding video segments about positions, and mobile-enabling the application process. Plus, as Ms. Max says, by using enhanced data and analytics, “We are now comparing results against newly created SLAs and are able to show our business leaders a monthly scorecard.”

And Talent Orchard, a talent acquisition consulting firm, has a shared services recruiting capability for the Federal market that “can gain competitive advantage by the engagement of a sophisticated recruiting model powered by the latest technology, utilizing a structured and tested methodology."

“With the evolution of social media and employer-brand-focused sites like Glassdoor, it’s critical that companies focus on establishing and developing their brand in 2016,” said Josh Tolan, CEO of Spark Hire, a video-interviewing company based in the Chicago area (From ‘5 Recruiting Trends for 2016' posted on SHRM.org.). “More and more companies are going to look for ways to showcase why candidates should apply to work there.”

Tolan wholeheartedly recommends developing current employees for new roles; it “keeps them motivated and helps the organization as their knowledge compounds over time, which makes them more valuable the longer they are with the company,” he said. HR will need to have systems for tracking how employees are doing so top performers can easily be identified, he added.
