Happy (almost) Anniversary – a Look Back

As we work into our 15th year since our founding in 2001 – it’s incredible how much has changed in a short period of time.

Technology certainly continues to march forward – waiting for no one. Over the past decade and a half or so, as we’ve expanded and honed our HR Shared Services Solution, there have been a great many milestones in other arenas as well, some useful and some not so much, prompting us to take a look down memory lane…

A look at, and celebration of, a few of the events, constructs and inventions that happened about fifteen years ago when we launched our firm and its offerings:

Some of the best inventions of 2001 (according to Time Magazine) include:

  • From the world of medicine – the AbioCor artificial heart and the creation of the first artificial liver
  • Engineering brought us the Millennium Bridge (an architectural marvel) which opened in Northeast England
  • The transportation sector featured a number of innovations such as the Fuel-Cell Electric Bike, a motorized surfboard, and the Gyroplane helicopter/airplane combo, and EZ-Rocket reusable rocket engine
  • And for household and personal use – inventions included self-cleaning windows, the mashed potato machine and the disposable cell phone

In other technology news in 2001, Wikipedia is launched, Microsoft releases Windows XP, Apple releases the iPod to an eager market, and Hewlett-Packard and Compaq merge. Popular films include Pixar’s ‘Monsters, Inc.,’ the ‘Rat Pack’ inspired ‘Ocean’s 11,’ and another installment of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. U2, Elton John and Creed were popular musician’s making hay at the time. And US and UK television features shows such as ‘The Weakest Link’ (UK), ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ (UK), ‘ER’ (US) and ‘The West Wing’ (US).

Why are we highlighting these things in our blog – one in which we usually feature more direct tie-ins with our HR-centric products and services? We wanted to show our appreciation of some of the other ongoing progress being made in a wide variety of arenas through advances in technology. We are proud to be a part of the great strides taking place today in so many vast areas to help mankind. And we hope our contributions in human resources continue to assist people in making their workplaces even better. Lastly – we know you can’t move forward if you don’t look back and occasionally remember the past!
